~All we went over today was our stories we read last night about the Japanese relocation camps. Also we went over the rights it had violated, these rights are the 1,2,4,5,6,7,8.
~Also we worked on the 6-7 page paper about Centrals past from the Prowlers and Yearbooks, in the library.

November 15th-Leia Harrison
No notes today. We watched the last few presentations and watched the beginning sequence of Saving Private Ryan.

  • Pearl Harbor: Dec. 7, 1941
  • America was not completely prepared for massive military campaign of Japan
  • By 1942, Japan took control of:
  • Phillipine Islands (U.S. Territory)
  • Most of East Asia, including: Vietnam, Burma, and Thailand
  • Began invading China and Russia
  • What's next? Australia

The Wrath of Japan
  • The Japanese broke Geneva Accords by torturing Prisoners of War
  • Bataan Death March: Imprisoned Americans (76,000) in Phillipines that were forced to walk for 6-10 days without food. (10,000 deaths)
  • kamikazes- suicide planes that were full of bombs

Return of the Americans
  • Island Hopping- strategy of taking over certain enemy islands rather than all

  • Once Americans reclaimed most of the taken territories (easier once troops could be taken from Europe) the only way to complete victory was invasion of Japan
  • This invasion would cost Americans many lives and money

  • President Truman took over for Roosevelt, he must decide

Finale
  • Two bombs are dropped in August of 1945, Hiroshima 1st, then Nagasaki.
